The Special Dress

We all have pieces of clothing which we think are too special and we leave them for a special occasion.

When I was little, I had a really pretty party dress and my parents were saving it for a special occasion. When that special occasion eventually came, the dress was too small for me. From that moment on, my parents have told me no to save stuff for a special occasion - to wear it and make the most of it.

Largely, this is the philosophy I adhere to, but every so often I find myself keeping something. One such this was this DVF dress - one of the most expensive pieces of clothing in my wardrobe. I got it a few years ago, and realised I had only worn it once before, just to photograph it.

So the next sunny day, I decided to pop it on, put on my favourite heels and take a trip to Sainsbury's (because I had no other plans). Did I feel overdressed: yes. But did I also feel satisfied to finally wear that dress out: double yes.

I always think clothes are meant to be worn, even if there is no special occasion that calls for them. Yes, I often feel overdressed because of that but - well, as far as I'm concerned, who cares what everyone else is wearing? If I want to look and feel fabulous, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Quite right to! If people can wear their PJs to a supermarket, then you can wear your kick-ass dress!
